Silena married James Henry Boynton in Franklin, New Hampshire on 27 March, 1862 near her home in Salisbury, New Hampshire. She and James moved to Franklinville, Gloucester, New Jersey circa 1872, after residing in the Boston area for some time. She relocated to Vineland, Cumberland, New Jersey and continued to raise her four daughters after the demise of her first husband, James Henry Boynton, in 1875. After her daughters were grown, she married widower John Penniman on 12 September, 1886 and continued to reside near her daughters in New Jersey until her death. A religious woman, she was active in the W.C.T.U., a practice her daughters carried on.
