He was the son of James White Thomas and Rebecca Ann Powell Thomas. He married Myrtle Mildred Brown on December 16, 1914 in Brandenburg, Kentucky to this union two children were born.
Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles (Alma Jean) Bowers of Owensboro, Kentucky; one son, Elisha William Thomas Jr. of Brandenburg; one brother, Jesse Pusey Thomas of Brandenburg; four sisters, Mrs. Dan (Tena Mae) Shacklette of Rock Haven, Mrs. Annie Cissell of Muldraugh, Mrs. Chris (Cora Beulah) Aebersold of Louisville, Mrs. Leonard (Ada Florence) Board of Kansas.
Funeral services were held at New Brandenburg Baptist Church with the Rev. V.C. Taylor officiating. Burial was in Cap. Anderson Cemetery.
