Reverend Ralph E. Miller, 90, of Summitville, Indiana formerly of Evansville passed away at 12:45 pm, Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Summit Convalescent Center.
Reverend Miller was born March 18, 1920 in Evansville, the son of Edward and Hulda (Koehler) Miller. He was a 1943 graduate of University of Evansville and received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Evangelical Theology Seminary in 1946. Reverend Miller was an ordained minister in the Evangelical Indiana Conference, the Evangelical United Brethren South Indiana Conference and the United Methodist South Indiana Conference. He retired in 1983 after 43 years as a minister. He served in numerous churches in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois, including Mt. Vernon Faith, Marengo, Indiana where he helped with the merger of the Evangelical United Brethren and the Methodist Congregations, and St. James West in Evansville. He spent 13 years assisting Evansville District work camps, helping to build 2 new churches, helping repair several other churches, fixing up homes on John's Island, SC, and helping to build homes for Habitat for Humanity. After retirement, he served at Central United Methodist as a part time Visitation Pastor for 18 years, after which they honored him as Pastor Emeritus in 2002. In the conferences he served on the Board of Ministry, Board of Evangelism, and served 18 years as a director of Children's Camps.
He is survived by daughter, Karen Carter (Dr. John Carter) of Tipton, IN, brothers, Melvin Miller of Evansville, IN and Arthur Miller of Antioch, TN, grandchildren, Christopher, Alla, Bryce and Bryan Carter and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Miller in 2002, daughter, Carol Jane Miller and son, Timothy Miller.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Central United Methodist Church, 300 Mary St., Evansville with Reverend Joe Easley officiating. Entombment will be in Park Lawn Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 4 pm until 8 pm, Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville. Friends may also call from 9 am until time of service at 10 am, Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the church.
