Born July 20, 1915, in Farmington to Mike and Rosa Bertot Airola, he married Joyce Muhlitner in June 1942 in Tallahassee, Fla. She died Jan. 20, 1987. He married Myrle White on Feb. 14, 1988, in Yates City. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Michael (and Nancy) of Perry, Maine, John (and Sondra) of Knegsel, The Netherlands, and James (and Margaret) of Ward, Colo.; one daughter, Mary Ann (and Ron) Duley of Pleasanton, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran, attaining the rank of staff sergeant and serving in the Pacific Theater.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 40 years as a shop foreman in the Mapleton foundry.
He was a member of Farmington Masonic Lodge 192 for more than 50 years and had served as a past master. He was a member of Farmington Moose Lodge 1571, Farmington American Legion Post 140 and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington. The Rev. David Lindemer will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Masonic rites will be at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by his American Legion post .
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Farmington.
