"CALLED HOME

Mr. and Mrs. Harlow Pettis have been called upon to suffer a great bereavement in the death of their beloved son, Leslie, whose spirit took its flight to the better land last Saturday at 4:45 a. m., after a lingering illness. The young man was taken sick last February and since had suffered more or less with rheumatism which resulted in enlargement of the heart and this may be said to have been the immediate cause of his death.
M. Leslie PETTIS was born in Kasota township, Feb. 7th, 1899 and was, consequently, in his sevententh year. He leaves to mourn his loss, mother and father, two brothers, Clarence of Litchfield and Rodney at home, and three sisters, Hazel, Nellie and Lillian at home. Funeral services were held last Monday afternoon from the home the officiating pastor being Rev. G. W. Wells of Minneapolis. A choir rendered several selected anthems and the floral tributes were beautiful indeed. The district school which he had attended was closed during funeral services. The remains were laid to rest in Kasota cemetery and the following young men served as pall bearers: Walter Waterman, John Waterman, Bert French, Burton Brown, Earl Crossfield and Alfred Miller. The following were present from out of town: Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Vanhorn of Decorah, Ia., Wells Pettis, and Hazel Hayes, of Mont Rose, Minn., Mrs. Jay Pettis, of Waverly, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pettis of Litchfield, Mr. and Mrs. Reubel, Mrs. Jacobson, Mrs. Eb. Davis of Cleveland, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey and son, Donald, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hill of Eagle Lake and Miss Effie and Bert Randolph of Lake Crystal."
