schools, died today in Largo. Florida.
Mr. Allinder served the Greenville
school system, first as principal,
then as superintendent, for 37 years,
from 1948 to 1966
Memorial services are planned for
Saturday in Largo where he has
lived from some years.

LARGO, Fla. — Memorial services will be held Saturday in Florida
for a leader in education for many years and former Greenville
Superintendent of Schools Allen F. Allinder.
Mr, Allinder died Tuesday in Largo, Fla He was 79
During his 37 years with the Greenville school system, Allinder
served as high school principal from 1935 to 1948, when he was
named superintendent. He retired in June, 1966
Mr, Allinder introduced many progressive changes in the
Greenville schools in athletic, academic and administrative areas.
He saw the completion of four new elementary schools, seven
additions and a new high school, where the A. F, Allinder Gymnasium was named in his honor.
His activities included membership in the Michigan Education
Association, the Michigan Association of School Administrators
and many civic and community organizations.
A longtime member of First Congregational Church. Greenville,
he served as Sunday School superintendent and on the board of
deacons. He was a Greenville Lions Club member for more than 20 years.
Reared in Muskogee, Okla., Mr. Allinder came to Greenville in
1929 after his graduation from Hillsdale College in 1928. He earned
an MA degree in education at the University of Michigan.
After his retirement to Florida, he and his wife, Emily,
celebrated 52 years of marriage before her death in June of 1984.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. David (Bonnie Ann) Reid of
Saginaw, and two sons, J. Christian Allinder of Largo, Fla., and the
Rev. William F. Allinder of Grand Rapids. There are seven
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are Saturday at Indian Rock Church of the
Isles in Indian Rock, Fla., Dr. Edwin Arnold officiating.
Memorial contributions to the endowment trust fund of Park
Congregational Church in Grand Rapids will be appreciated by the family.
