Ralph Rusmisell, a community resident for 58 years and holding the position of village clerk of Mason City, passed away in the late afternoon of Wednesday, Nov 29. He discharged his official duties during the entire day, but was discovered dead at his desk when two farmers called at his office about 5:30 p.m. A heart attack is believed to be the cause.

The deceased had lived in this community nearly all his life, and more recently had become a part of the business administration of the town. Not only had he proved a capable and courteous official, but all who knew him will long remember the warmth of his spirit, and his unfailing friendliness and comradeship. He filled a useful place in the community, and his death leaves a gap which is not easy to fill. We think of him as having gone untimely, for his age was only 60 years, 1 month and 12 days when the final summons came. All will miss him. Death will not erase the joys Mr. Rsumisell’s life brought to hus fine family and friends.

George Ralph Rusmisell, eldest son of William C. and Victoria Rusmisell, was born in Taswell County, Illinois, Oct. 17, 1884, and departed this life, November 9, 1944.

When two years of age he came with his parents to Custer County, Nebr., grew to manhood here, and was graduated from Mason City High School. For a number of years he was engaged in farming and stock raising, and remained on the old farmstead one and a half miles southwest of town until an accidental bone injury compelled him to retire.

On April 15, 1914, he married Miss Merle Lanterman of Broken Arrow, the daughter of a well-known Custer County pioneer, who for more than thirty years was his devoted helpmate. To this happy marriage, two sons and three daughters were born.

For a number of years, Mr. Rusmisell was a member of Mason City lodge No. 207, I.O.O.F. In fraternal circles he was always foremost, helpful and dependable, and was highly esteemed by the brethren of the lodge. During his membership, every honor within the gift of the subordinate lodge was conferred upon him.

After retiring from the farm, Mr. and Mrs. Rusmisell became residents of Mason City, and quite recently moved into the fine home purchased by the deceased.

Left to mourn his passing besides his wife are two sons; Sgt. Norris Rusmisell, Little Rock, Ark., Sgt. Billy Rusmisell, Aleutian Islands; three daughters, Mrs. Orlo Murrish, Kearney, Mrs. Antone K. Dobesh, Ansley, and Miss Madeline Rusmisell, Englewood, Calif., his age mother, Mrs. Victoria Rusmisell, Grand Junction, Colo.; one sister Mrs. L. E. Perrin, Grand Junction, Colo.; one brother, Clifford Rusmisell of Ord, numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Monday afternoon from the Baptist Church of Mason City, Rev. W. E. Tharp officiating. Burial was in the local cemetery.
