Born May 16, 1932 in Gosport, Indiana, Mrs. Hoskins moved to Lakeland in 1978 from Busy, Kentucky. She retired from the City of Lakeland where she was employed as a statistician. She served as a foster grandparent for Seniors In Service at Southwest Elementary and R. Bruce Wagner Elementary for the last fifteen years. She received numerous volunteer of the year awards over the years and was honored at a luncheon in Tampa with Mayor Pam Iorio in 2005. She was Baptist. She was an amazing, loving, kind and beautiful woman that loved and lived for her family. Mrs. Hoskins loved music, photography, traveling and volunteering her time and wisdom for local children. She loved her family so much, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and had a very special place in her heart for the children she fostered, who called her "Grand- ma" when they had occasion to see her around town. She loved her friends and the community and clubhouse at her Beacon Terrace neighborhood. She loved Ladies Luncheons and pot luck meals and playing cards with her friends. She will be missed very much.
Mrs. Hoskins was preceded in death by parents; Minor and Minnie Dunagan, husband; Ned Hoskins, brother; Thomas Dunagan, and sisters; Evelyn Schowengerdt and Betty Ruth Dunagan. She is survived by daughters; Beverly (Mike) Thompson, Sandy (Johnny) Couch, Tammy (Edward) Crosby and Kristi (Victor) Echaves, son; Tom (Cheryl) Cullivan, grandchildren; Leslie (Talmadge), Amanda, Ian, Leeanne (Tim), Ashley, Kayleigh, Sarah and Marcus, great grandchildren; Avery, Madisyn, Ethan and Cooper, sister-in-law; Vera Mae Dunagan and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 11am at Gosport Cemetery in Gosport, Indiana with the assistance of Chandler Funeral Home-Whitaker Chapel.
A celebration of the life of Mrs. Hoskins will be conducted Sunday, October 3, 2010 at 2pm at Beacon Terrace Clubhouse in Lakeland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Florida Baptist Childrens' Home.
