Lt. (SEAL) Brendan J. Looney, 29, of Owings, Md., assigned to a West Coast-based SEAL Team. He died in a helicopter crash Sept. 21 during combat operations in the Zabul province, Afghanistan, while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He was commissioned as a Naval intelligence officer. Two years later, he was assigned to an East Coast naval special warfare unit, at which he must have gotten a taste for the elite Sea, Air Land force. He started the grueling SEAL training in Coronado in March 2007. Brendan's best friend, 1st Lt Travis L. Manion was killed in 2007, and after Brendan's death, Travis was re-interred at Arlington National Cemetery where they both rest side by side.
