John is the son of Isaac Newton & Sarah Jane (Higgs) Foltz. He married Mary Ellen Campbell on December 24, 1906.

John William Foltz, 73, prominent farmer and poultryman of the Alma section of the county, died at 3 a.m. Saturday, April 8th after being in failing health for the past ten years...
A son of the late Isaac N. Foltz and Sarah Higgs Foltz, he was born in the Newport section of the county on January 7, 1888. He was a devout member of the Newport Church of the Brethren... He was a former employee of the Virginia Department of Highways.
On December 24, 1906 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ellen Campbell, who survives him with three sons, Arthur Ray Foltz of Dayton, Ohio; Leo E. Foltz of Silver Spring, Md. and Lefton Foltz of Fairfax, Va.; and two daughters, Mrs. Solomon (Edith) McCuley of Charlottesville and Mrs. Vance (Amy Lee) Good of Stanley. Two sisters, Mrs. Daniel (Annie) Bazzle of Broadway, Va. and Mrs. Ada Kite of Shenandoah, also survive as do four brothers, I. Newton Foltz of Stanley; Joseph Perry Foltz and Noah Foltz of Shenandoah and James Foltz of Dayton, Ohio.
The Rev. Olin Landes officiated at the last rites at eleven o'clock Monday morning in the chapel of the Bradley Funeral Home. Burial was in the St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery at Alma.
