After graduating from Concord High School and Concord Business College, Edith's first job was working at the Railroad YMCA, followed by a position at the Margaret Pillsbury Hospital. Edith was also employed as an organist/choir director. She was an organist for the Bow Mills United Methodist Church for 35 years and 17 years for the Bow Community Baptist Church.
Edith enjoyed singing and took part in the annual Messiah performances as well as participated in the women's barbershop group known as the Pitch Pipers.
Edith was a very active member of the Bow Mills United Methodist Church. She held a large variety of posts and participated on many committees. She often talked about her experiences working on church suppers, church fairs, teaching Sunday school, playing piano for VBS and spending times as a counselor at the church summer camp. Edith was also an active volunteer, including more than 20 years at the McKerley Nursing Home as well as delivering food for Meals on Wheels and helping to prepare and serve meals for the Friendly Kitchen. She received a Governor's Volunteer Recognition Award in 1986.
Edith was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of more than 60 years, Carroll Ward French, in 2008.
Survivors include two daughters, Karol (Kay) E. Higgins and her husband, Ronald, of Bow and Anita L. Shaw and her husband, Richard, also of Bow; as well as her grandson, Kyle W. Shaw of Bow and her nieces.
