Lela Ellen Bonner Wamsley, 94, a resident of Elkins, and a former resident of Mingo, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, in Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was born Aug. 31, 1916, at Blue Springs, a daughter of the late Harlington Wade and Lucy Phoebe Hamrick Bonner.

In 1934, at Cumberland, Maryland, she was married to Carl Frank Wamsley, who preceded her in death in 1963.

She is survived by one son, Lancel Wamsley and wife, Susan, of Centreville, Virginia; two sisters, Lura Swecker and Lola Hogan, both of Atlanta, Georgia; and one sister-in-law, Opal Stalnaker, who is a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Nicola Edwards and husband, Brett, of Vienna, Sandra Smith and husband, Steve, of Elkins, Joseph Browning of Charleston, Kevin Wamsley and wife, Susan, of Hamilton, Virginia, Kimberly Wamsley of South Riding, Virginia, and Keith Wamsley and wife, Beth, of Haymarket, Virginia; and four great-grandchildren; Jena Letan of Seneca Rocks, Lukas Letan of Elkins, Emma Browning of Charleston and Kailin Wamsley of Haymarket, Virginia. Three stepgreat-grandchildren, Joshua Edwards of Vienna and Douglas and Kayla Smith, both of Belington, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Arvil Bonner; one son, Basil Wamsley; one daughter, Francina Lothes; and one granddaughter, Erica Smith.

Mrs. Wamsley was a homemaker and a Protestant by faith.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli officiating. Interment will follow in Mingo Cemetery.
