Florence - Marie Fogle Dempsey, 92, of Florence, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, in a local nursing home after an illness. Graveside services, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg. The family will receive family and friends at the graveside; prior to that, the family will be at their respective homes. Mrs. Dempsey was born in Orangeburg to her late parents, James Sumter and Martha Ann Croft Fogle. She was married to the late Benjamin Franklin Dempsey Sr. and was the owner of The Smart Shop, a ladies' dress shop in Orangeburg, for many years. She moved to Florence in 1998; all who knew her recognized her humble, loving and kind spirit. Surviving are a daughter, Elaine Morehead and husband Gene of Florence; a son, Benjamin Franklin Dempsey Jr. and his wife Judy of Norway; four grandchildren, Arthur Morehead and wife Christy, Anne Meree Craig and husband Les, Angela Fanning and husband Ben, and Deas Dempsey and wife Michelle; and seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502, or Florence Little Theater Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 4029, Florence, SC 29502.
