St. George -- Patsy LaRue Tait Leany, of St. George, Utah, died peacefully in her home the first day of Spring, Saturday, March 20, 2004. She was born March 12, 1931 in Cedar City, Utah, to Ferdinand and Iola Lamb Tait.

She married her "boyfriend," Bert S. Leany, on June 23, 1950 in the St. George Temple.

Patsy was raised in Mt. Carmel, Utah and later moved to Hurricane, Utah. She graduated from Hurricane High School, where she played the saxophone in the dance band and excelled in academics. She attended business college in California and became an excellent typist. She typed manuscripts for Maureen Whipple, a well-known author. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully and always. She taught Primary for 33 years.

A natural care giver, Patsy blessed the lives of so many families by lovingly caring for their elderly. She had a gift for relating to people of all ages and varieties. She loved her family and her gardens. Her gardens were well preserved in her beautiful photography. She sold Avon for years, and was her own best customer.

We'll miss her "tater salad." Some of Patsy's favorite things were going out for a Coca-Cola, attending D.U.P. meetings, and working on genealogy. Her least favorite thing was going to the dentist.

Surviving family include her: husband, Bert; children, Delna (Gene) Gates, of St. George, Barbara (Tom) VanGuilder, of Henderson, Kevin (Darlene Jones) Leany, of St. George, Ed Leany, of Leeds, Kyle (Mauri Torgerson) Leany, of Central, Marsha (Trent) Atkinson, of West Jordan, and Mary (David) Mower, of Syracuse. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, who she never forgot on their birthdays. She is preceded in death by her: father and mother; stepfather, Wilford Leany; sister, Marlene Jones; two infant brothers; stepbrother and stepsister, Theron Leany and Marzell Covington.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at the Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary Chapel. Friends may call Tuesday, March 23, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., both at the Mortuary.

Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT,
