Jeffrey and Dorothy Mattock Hawkins married in All Saints Church at Norton Bavant, Wiltshire, England 2 Sep 1662. Eight christening documents from the England Births & Christenings 1532-1975 show Jeffrey and Dorothy Hawkins to be the parents of John (Aug 1672). Margaret (28 Feb 1663), Daniell (24 Dec 1665), Jane (13 Sep 1668), Jeffrey (18 Sep 1670), Anne (20 Nov 1672), John (12 Feb 1674) and Roger (14 Jul 1678). Sometime between 1678 and 1682, Jeffrey and Dorothy converted to the Quaker faith.
Like many Quakers, they moved their family to the New World. On 31 Aug 1682 they boarded the Welcome Ship with William Penn on his first trip to the new world. The ship arrived at the mouth of the Delaware River (New Castle) on 27 October 1682, later anchoring at Chester, PA. In 1970 the "Welcome Society of Pennsylvania" published a book, The Welcome Claimants. Proved, Disproved and Doubtful compiled by George E. McCracken. On the "Proven" list were Jeffrey Hawkins, Dorothy Hawkins, his wife, Roger Hawkins, his son, James Hawkins, his son, Daniel Hawkins, his son, Jeffrey Hawkins, his son, Susanna Hawkins, his daughter and Elizabeth Hawkins, his daughter. Many researchers believe that Susanna and Elizabeth were Roger Hawkins's daughters.
Mr. McCracken completed extensive research to prove or disprove claims made as to who was on the ship Welcome with William Penn.

Jeffrey and Dorothy Hawkins were members of the Makefield Monthly Meeting in Dolington, Bucks Co, PA. The MM records (1736-2021) are housed at Swathmore College. The records show that Dorothy, wife of Jeffrey Hawkins was buried in 1685.
Dorothy might not have been buried in Makefield MM Cemetery. She was a member of this MM.
