Mr Arrowood was a long-time resident of Waynesboro, Virginia, having moved to the National Lutheran Home in Rockville, Maryland, in 2004.
He was born June 10, 1918, in McClure, Virginia, the son of the late Major E. and Ellen Arrowood.
He retired, after 36 years of service, from Crompton Shenandoah and Company. A founding member of Westwood Baptist Church, he served for years as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. During World War II, Mr. Arrowood served under Patton in the Third Army, and received a Bronze Star for valor.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Higginbotham Arrowood, in 1967, he is survived by his wife Dorothy Christian Arrowood, of Rockville. Survivors also include two daughters, Jane A. Lopez and her husband, Mike, of Dutton, Virginia, Audrey A. Hawkins and her husband, David, of Lexington, Virginia; a grandson, Michael A. Lopez of St. Louis, Missouri; granddaughters, Elisa L. Gillespie of Mathews, Virginia, Leslie H. Meadows of Holly Springs, North Carolina, and M. Blaire Hawkins of Charlottesville, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Keinan and Liam of Mathews, Virginia; two stepdaughters Virginia Tierney and her husband, Mike, of Waynesboro, Virginia, and Sue Correll and her husband, Larry, of Winchester, Virginia; one brother, Verdun Arrowood of Johnson City, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Riverside Cemetery in Waynesboro, Virginia.
