When his father died in 1930, Doyle's farm duties magnified. although his mother had a hired hand to help for a couple year finance's were such she couldn't retain him so Doyle ended up as the primary household male to farm, with some help from younger brother Afton age 10. in order to harness a horse Doyle would put it in a ditch then stand up on a fence rail. Over the these early years Doyle was also employed in his brother in law's fledging turkey operation.
Late in 1939 Lucille Chapman came to the Peterson house to pick up Doyle's brother Afton for a girls choice date since Afton wasn't home Doyle tried to take his place but Lucille said no for that night but yes for the next and the romance was on, they were married 5 june 1940 in the Manti temple. Purchasing a house in Manti, The couple worked in the turkey's, and on Doyle's mothers farm. Later Doyle took over his mothers farm on a 50/50 share basis and the couple sold their manti house and purchased a home in Sterling and settled into the Sterling town raising thier family there. Being very active in the LDS church Doyle was set apart as the Sterling Ward Bishop on 10 January 1954.
Following a serious accident where he was hit by a auto, and facing losing considerable mobility, Doyle sold his farm in 1957 and moved to Ogden Utah obtaining employment with the Ogden school district. He also pursued his love of horseshoe pitching and in 1994 was inducted into the Utah Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame.
Lucille died of cancer in 1990 and not enjoying being alone, in 1991 Doyle married one of his neighbors June Garr. On a trip to the mountains near Boulder Utah, Doyle collapsed and died while doing what he loved "Pitching Horseshoes".
