Glenn Alden McDonald, age 86, a resident of Oliver Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.He was born September 27, 1923 in Barbourville, Kentucky. From September 1941 to December 1945, Glenn served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Alaska during World War II receiving several medals, citations and commendations. He met and married the love of his life, Nellie Wilma Cooke McDonald on August 2, 1946 and later extended his family with two lovely daughters, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.In 1951, Glenn was saved and began living his life for the Lord, studying and teaching the Word of God to all that would listen. He attended The Church of God of Prophecy in Oliver Springs for many years. Moving his family from Detroit, Michigan in 1961, Glenn worked at K-25 plant in Oak Ridge as a machinist and later retired after many long years of service. He enjoyed woodworking and also playing the fiddle, banjo, guitar, and bass.The youngest of 12 children, he was preceded in death by his parents Harve and Cora Frederick McDonald, and by his siblings.He is survived by his lovely wife of 64 years, Nellie Cooke McDonald. Two Daughters; Glynda McDonald of Powell, Judith McDonald Noe and husband Larry Noe of Oliver Springs. Five grandchildren; Deborah Cantrell, Rebekah Davis and husband Kevin Davis, Annelle Stringer and husband Greg Stringer, all of Oak Ridge. David Glenn Noe and wife Elisha Noe of Oliver Springs and Darrick Noe of Jonesboro, Tennessee. Seven great grandchildren; Andrew Kirkpatrick, Raven Cantrell, Shelton and Devin Davis, Marcus and Micah Knaff, all of Oak Ridge and Cadence Noe of Oliver Springs; two step great grandchildren, Rusty and Amanda Stringer of Knoxville, along with many close friends from his church who have supported our family during this difficult time.The family will receive friends Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Sharp Funeral Home between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. The funeral will follow in the chapel at 8:00 P.M. with Minister Larry Noe and Pastor Roy Massengale officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Anderson Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Sharp Funeral Home of Oliver Springs is in charge of arrangements.
