DEATH OF J.W. McANULTY.
-----
A Veteran of the Civil War Passes Away at His Home on North Davidson Street.

John W. McAnulty, who resides at 908 North Davidson street, died yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Mr. McAnulty has passed the alloted "three score and ten" and the end was not unexpected. During the winter just past he had contracted a very severe cold that, some time ago, developed into a very sever case of la grippe, which was the immediate cause of his death. Mr. McAnulty was a native of Cabarrus county, where he lived during the greater part of his life. From this county he enlisted for the great struggle between the States and conducted himself in such a manner during that great conflict as to relect honor on himself and his State. Mr. McAnulty returned to Cabarrus county after the war and continued to reside there until his removal to Charlotte some 12 years ago. As a weather prophet Mr. McAnulty was known to almost every citizen of Cabarrus county. Many remarkable instances of his ability in this special line are remembered and often spoken of by his many friends. Many of his peculiarities also were related. It is said that the old man had a rather peculiar clock that he would always set by the moon. The calculations by which he secured the exact time were very compicated and many of his neighbors often gathered to witness the reckoning of the time. Mr. McAnulty also had in his possession a buffalo robe overcoat that he prized very highly and which he would never part with for any consideration. Since moving to Charlotte about 12 years ago he has engaged in farming on a small scale, and many of his large family of children have worked in the nearby mills. Mr. McAnulty was highly regarded by his neighbors and there are many who will hear of his death with genuine sorrow. The deceased was a member of the Mecklenburg camp of United Confederate Veterans, all of whom will grieve over the departure from the fast thinning ranks of another of their comrades. Thus "the leaves of Life keep falling one by one."
