CIVIL WAR VETERAN
Philip Crater Hutchings enlisted in Co. B, 31st. NJ volunteer infantry on September 3, 1862. He was mustered into service on September 17, 1862. Pvt. Philip C. Hutchings died of typhoid fever in an army camp near the steamboat landing in Belle Plains, Virginia. His tombstone reads:
