"Dayton" was a soldier in the Civil War & is buried in Rome, Pa. Cemetery. I went to observe the markings of this tombstone on April 18, 1998 and wrote down the following; This stone is broken in 1/2 and the top portion is leaning against the bottom 1/2 which is set in concrete. It is directly under a tree in front of the P.P. Bliss Memorial in the middle of the cemetery. It has a Civil War marker with flag, and is on the left side of his wife, Anna Cook Beeman Rockwell. His stone has following; H.D. Beeman of Co. G, New York Regiment. Sept 17, 1876, 40 y, 4m, & 13d. (I noted that Lemuel Rockwell has no memorial in area, at least I couldn't find any.) (Also observed in the book "Our Boys in Blue," by Clement Heverly as follows; Henry D. Beeman, age 28, Private, Company G, New York 15th Engineers, Sep. 2, 1864 to June 13, 1865.) (Also in the 1870 Federal Census of Rome Township, he is listed as "Dayton" Beeman, age 34, farmer, value of property, $3000.oo, value of personal goods, $1000.00, born in PA. His wife Anna, age 27, keeping house, born in Pennsylvania, with children Mary, age 3, and Joseph, age 1.) Lemuel Rockwell, age 17, was living next door with his parents, Henry and Clarissa Rockwell, and sister Kate, and brothers Melvin and Edson. (Henry's brothers James and John A. Beeman were also in the Civil War).
