On Friday, 10 Sep 2010, June V. "Vickie" Whitnack "My Beutiful Lady", wife, loving grandmother and great-grandmother passed on at the Ridgecrest Healthcare Center.
She was born to Carl Victor and Margaret Johnson in Lawson, CO on 3 May 1931
Vickie had been a resident of Ridgecrest, CA since 1980 and previously lived in Palmdale, CA. She was a very loving and supportive partner to her husband, Fred, in all aspects of his activities with the China Lake Fire Department during the 1980s and most especially with the Ridgecrest Elks Lodge #1913 and California-Hawaii Elks Association.
While living in Palmdale, she had been president of the Emblem Club (a national organization affiliated with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks) and upon her move to Ridgecrest and marriage to Fred, she became very actively involved with the local Emblem Club #248, moving through the offices and up to president of this club.
When a local club of Elks Ladies was formed, she at once became involved with them and became president as well. She was asked to put together a crew to run the kitchen during Elks Bingo on Thursdays, and was very successful for many years in providing food for the many hungry Elks and Bingo players, raising a lot of funds for their projects to assist the Elks and their charities. For many years, she prepared and edited the local Elks monthly bulletin along with her close friend, Cheryl Preul.
When a fall broke a knee and she had to have it replaced, her activity was slowed down and yet she continued to support her husband at the Lodge with whatever she could do to help. As time and a couple of strokes took their toll, she just kept going. She traveled all over the country with her husband, visiting relatives, grandkids, and great ones, attending conventions, etc. She never wanted to give up and just sit back until the last few months. She loved people and whoever she met came to love and respect her. As her health declined, she fought the good battle until our Lord called her home and ended her pain. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and remembered for her beauty of body and spirit, and her unfailing love and support or her husband, extended family, and friends.
Vickie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Gertrude Lingo and Lenore Dickinson; and son John Medkief.
She is survived by her loving husband, Fred Whitnack; sister Anna Kay Hedge (Delmer); son Ricky Medkief; daughter Dorinda Medkief; stepson Gregory L. Smith (Laura); brother-in-law Gary Whitnack (Cheryl); sisters-in-law Jerry Sue (Paul) Lewis; Deborah Weakland and Rana Fyffe (David); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 22 nieces and nephews.
