Obituary, The Columbia Daily Tribune, September 3, 2010:

Ava Lee Comfort, 90, of Columbia, formerly of Sturgeon and Centralia, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at The Bluffs in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, at Sturgeon United Methodist Church in Sturgeon with the Rev. Michael Will officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Mount Horeb Cemetery in Sturgeon.

She was born June 17, 1920, near Steelville, the daughter of Phil Marion and Millie Neleta Kimberlin Adams.

On March 21, 1942, she was married in Steelville to Glenn Mattoon Comfort. He preceded her in death May 19, 1998.

She graduated from Steelville High School and worked in the Steelville Bank. After her marriage to Glenn, they moved to St. Louis, and during the war, she worked in a factory supporting the war effort. In 1951, Ava and Glenn moved to a farm near Sturgeon. In addition to helping Glenn with the farm work, she worked at the Sturgeon State Bank and later MFA Insurance. Ava and Glenn moved to Centralia in 1967.

She was a member of the Sturgeon United Methodist Church, where she loved teaching Sunday school. She enjoyed collecting and studying wildflowers, buttons and seashells.

Survivors include a daughter, Marian (John) Roberts of Columbia; son Raymond Glenn Comfort of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Scott (Amanda) Roberts of Springfield, Ill., Bobby (Angie) Comfort of Clarksville, Tenn., Michelle (Brad) Pfeiffer of Columbia; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pauline Adams of Steelville, Ann (Bob) Horn of Albany, N.Y., Dorothy Weber of Gray Summit; brother George (Sharon) Adams of Steelville; and a brother-in-law, Bryce Maloney of Salem.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Neola McKay, Neleta Maloney, Opal Comfort, Betty Ferrell; brother, Henry Adams; and a daughter-in-law Elizabeth Comfort.

Pallbearers will be Billy Frank Kemner, H.C. Russell, Mike Adams, Phil Adams, Charles Ferrell and Gerald Brooks.

The family suggests memorials to Sturgeon United Methodist Church or Central Missouri Food Bank.

Fenton Funeral Home in Centralia is in charge of arrangements.
