CANNON FALLS — The funeral service for John Harold Haack will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Peace United Church of Christ (1503 2nd Ave. N.E.) in Rochester, with Pastor Paul Bauch officiating.
John Haack passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, on his birthday at age 75.
John was born Sept. 18, 1935, to Carl and Meta (Podein) Haack. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1953. He attended college in Rochester and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was co-owner of the Dog Patch Inn Bar in Troy, Minn. He married Betty Moyer on Oct. 15, 1960.
He continued working as a bartender in Minneapolis and Rochester, including the Kahler Hotel. He worked for Struve's Paint Store in Rochester for many years, before opening his own frame shop. John and his wife, Betty, owned and operated John's Picture Framing until he retired in 1995.
Following his wife's death he moved to Florida, where he spent time with friends and family and enjoyed boating and fishing. John returned to Rochester before moving to Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. He continued wood carving, movie watching and his lifelong passion for trout fishing. John enjoyed spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John formed many friendships with the staff and caregivers at Angels Care Center. His family will always be grateful for the care and comfort provided at Angels Care Center.
John is survived by his three children: daughters, Nancy (Darren) Knoepke of Rochester, Lisa (Mark) Marsh of Excelsior, Minn., and son, Joe (Tammy) Haack of Rochester; grandchildren, Chris and Matt Knoepke, Adam Hansen, Kurt, Greg, Kevin, Anthony, Eli, Sarah Marsh, and two great-grandchildren, Addison and Nora Hansen; and his sisters, Betty Haack of St. Paul, and Virgie (Al) Lacey of Mantorville. He is preceded in death by wife, Betty; sister, Virginia Howell; and brother, Walley Haack.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, and one hour prior to the service a the church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Peace United Church of Church in Rochester or the Angels Care Center.
