Ambrose Flanagan was the son of Whittle Flanagan and Judith Ferguson Flanagan of Louisa County, VA. He married Dianah Lodissa Chewning on April 10,1806 in Louisa, VA and they moved to North Alabama in early 1815 after his service in the War of 1812 in Virginia. Ambrose Flanagan served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Regiment(Crutchfield's) of the Militia System of VA in Louisa County, during the war of 1812. He used land bounty or warrant to acquire 80 acres of land in Madison County, AL on Dec.22,1814. Alabama wasn't a state until 1819. In the 1850 & 1860 census he was living in Jackson County, AL.

Ambrose and Dianah Flanagan are buried in the Webb "Old Bottom" cemetery in Trenton,AL.
