In 1860 25 year old William HOBERG was serving in the US Army Mounted Rifles Co. F, then I, under Maj. C. C. SIBLEY and stationed in Albuquerque, Bernalillo Co, NM. He had enlisted as a corporal in 1856 at age 21 after working as a laborer, and was discharged 17 Apr 1861. He also served at Fort Craig NM.

In 1862 he paid the IRS Civil War Tax of $20 as a retail Liquor dealer in Atrisco, Bernalillo Co, NM.

By 1870 he was married and was a military storekeeper in La Junta, Mora Co, NM. His wife, Encarnacion, was born in March 1849 in NM, and their daughter Inez was born about 1855 in NM. I don't know if there were other children.

The 1880 Census lists them in Cherry Valley, Mora Co, NM, with William working as a farmer and only his wife in the household.

The 1890 Veterans Schedule shows Corporal William HOBERG living in Watrous, Mora Co, NM, with no disabilities from the Civil War.

Joya Largo, San Miguel Co, NM, was their home in June 1900 where he was still farming. He's age 63 and Encarnacion is 57.
