Raymond Jefferson Barrett, 93, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Tuesday September 21, 2010 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

He was born June 11, 1917 in Batesville.

Raymond was a successful rice farmer and cattleman. He started farming in Tyronza with a team of mules. Later he moved his family to Greenfield to farm rice and soybeans. He bought land on Harrisburg Rd. to build family home and Barrett Place.

He was the oldest child of five, and had to quit the sixth grade to support his mother and siblings. Raymond was a member of the Church of Christ, and loved fishing, hunting, and tending to his cattle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hallie B. Langford Barrett; his parents, Allie and Edna Brewer Barrett; and a brother, Lowell Barrett, a sister Glendene Benn.

Survivors include a son, David Ray Barrett; three daughters, DorisJean Barrett, Mary Louise Davis and Raymonda Watkins; eight grandchildren, Lori, Kathy, Andrew, Dana, Michele, Dawn, Brandi and Nastya; sixteen grandchildren; and two sisters, Ailene and Melba.

Chapel services were held at the funeral home, with Kenneth Gossett and Winston Burton officiating. Burial was at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
