The Lester Prairie News 7/27/1906 INJURED IN A RUNAWAY Mrs. Albrecht Fatally Injured in an Accident Wednesday Evening Mrs. Henrietta Albrecht, of this village, was the victim of a runaway accident in the vicinity of Winsted Wednesday evening and received injuries that may result in her death. It seems hard to ascertain just how the accident occurred, as the injured lady has not been able to give an accurate account of the affair and her daughters were evidently not aware that anything was wrong until the horses started to run. Mrs. Albrecht and her two daughters were returning from Howard Lake. As they were in the neighborhood of the Corr farm and were going down a slight incline one of the tugs became unhooked and the team became frightened. The pole dropped to the ground and broke and the jar threw Mrs. Albrecht out of the buggy. The team then started down the road, the buggy swinging from one side to the other, until they neared the place where John Fischer, Jr. formerly lived when they suddenly stopped. The daughter was still in the buggy, and beyond a few bruises did not received any injuries. Mrs. Albrecht was unconscious when picked up. She was taken to a farm house and Dr. Dulude of Winsted, was hastily summoned. He found that several ribs had been broken, one of them puncturing the lung. She was removed to her home in this village the same night. Thursday afternoon Drs. Clement and Dulude performed an operation upon her and removed the broken rib which had punctured the lung, this being the only hope of saving her life. The team which Mrs. Albrecht was driving was one of Mr. Fleming's livery teams, and both horses are gentle and safe for anyone to drive. The accident was simply one of those which is liable to happen at any time to a person driving a team. The Albrecht family seems to be particularly unfortunate in the matter of accidents. Mr. Albrecht was killed some years ago by a bull and a son of the injured lady met his death by accidently drinking carbolic acid.
