AFTER A LONG ILLNESS.
Mrs. Maria Allen Passed Peacefully to Her Heavenly Home.
The deceased, Maria N. Cornish Allen was born in Palmyra, Wayne Co., N. Y., Feb. 17th, 1836. Both her parents died when she was quite young, after which she went to live with an uncle. On Nov. 24th, 1857, she was married to Edgar G. Allen, to whom she was a faithful wife and companion for 42 years. In the same year of their marriage they moved to Michigan, settling first at Hopkins, afterwards moving to Otsego and Watson. In 1869 they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they lived only three and one half years, and then came back to Michigan, again settling two and one half miles northwest of Otsego, where she has lived ever since. Mr. Allen died four years ago last February. Mrs. Allen was the mother of six children, three of whom died when young. The other three,—Mrs. Hellen M. Eilis, Clarence E Allen and Mrs. Martha J. Tucker, together with two brothers, Mr. C.Cornish of Fairport, N. Y., and Mr. E. S. Cornish of Williamson N. Y. survive her. Fifty years ago Mrs. Allen was converted and ever since has been an earnest and loyal Christian of the Baptist faith: for during all these years she has been a consistant and devoted member of a Baptist church. She was always unselfish, sweet in spirit, kind and generous, solicitous for the welfare of the church, and very appreciative of services rendered in her behalf. She was one of the truest of mothers God ever gave, and was a neighbor and friend, greatly beloved by all who ever knew her. A little over three months ago she was obliged, through failing strength, to take to her bed never again to
arise from it. Seven weeks before the end came, being calmly conscious that she would not recover she made all arrangements for her departure, even choosing her own funeral text, the songs to be sung, together with the singers there of, and the bearers who would carry her remains to their last resting place, beside those of her deceased husband at Mountain Home cemetery. She was strong in faith in her Savior, implicitely believing His word and cherishing the brightest of hopes in the future. At the age of 67, very early Friday morning. May 29th, she quietly and gladly went home to be at rest forever with her God. The funeral which was attended by a large concourse of people, was conducted by her pastor. Rev. F. Dewey Ehle, from the late residence on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mr. Ehle spoke from the scripture chosen by the deceased. "As for me, I shall behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake with thy likeness." He said: these words (1) express the lofty and noble ambitions
of her life. (2) They imply her confidence to see her Savior, and to be satisfied in him. (3) They express how she would have her friends now think of her. A procession over one half mile long followed the remains to the cemetery, attesting the esteem in which the deceased was held.
