JOSEPH T. ELGIN, father of Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, W. Lee Elgin, died at the home of his son, Cameron Elgin, Hagerstown, Saturday, aged 81 years.

The deceased was born and reared in the Sandy Hook section of Washington county, son of James T. Elgin.

He was a farmer for many years. He moved to Hagerstown in 1908 and followed the carpenter's trade until about six years ago.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church of Harpers Ferry.

He is survived by the following sons: W. Lee, Roy, Albert, Cameron and Fisk, all of Hagerstown; sisters, Mrs. Laurel Hinkel and Mrs. Jennie Gittings, both of Knoxville; also by 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Among Mr. Elgin's relatives in this vicinity are his niece, Mrs. Clarence Hemp, this city, and his grand-nieces and nephews, Mrs. J. Paul Delphey, Elgin Hemp, Mrs. Truman Jones, David Hemp, Frederick; Mrs. Claude Culler, Feagaville; Joseph Hemp, Walkersville; Eugene Hemp, Jefferson, and Fred Hemp, Libertytown.

Funeral services Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Walter Byron Stehl. Interment in Rest Haven cemetery, Hagerstown.
