Calvin Jacobs, 90, of Prince's Bay, died Friday at Manahawkin (NJ) Convalescent Center, where he had been a resident for the past year.

Born in Great Kills, he moved to Prince's Bay after his marriage seventy years ago. He relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1986.

He was employed for more than twenty years as a maintenance supervisor at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. He retired in 1982.

A boating enthusiast, Mr. Jacobs was known as "Captain Cal." He was a member of the Prince's Bay Boatman's Association. After his retirement he fulfilled his lifelong dream to pilot his boat from Prince's Bay to St. Petersburg.

"My father was a boat fanatic. He loved the water. He lived on his boat," said his daughter, Jo-Ann Zimmer.

Mr. Jacobs was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian-Pacific theater, and was involved in the liberation of the Philippine Islands from the Japanese.

He was a member of the American Legion post in Madera Beach, Florida.

His wife, the former Edith Hoffman, died in 1984.

In addition to his daughter, Jo-Ann, Mr. Jacobs is survived by a son, Ronald (Red) Jacobs; another daughter, Janice Meier; eight grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in the Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home, Tottenville.
Arrangements include cremation.
