Col. W.P. Lashlee, a respected citizen of the 10th district, died Monday at noon, aged 63 years. Col. Lashlee had been suffering from paralysis for many months. He leaves a large family, most of whom are grown, and quite a large circle of friends to mourn his demise.

Born near Tennessee River (Humphreys County (now Benton County), Tennessee) on September 15, 1822; son of Burwell Lashlee and Mary "Polly" (Sarratt) Lashlee. Married in 1844 to Emily Catherine Johnson. Ten children – John Paton (1845), James Malcolm (1848), Mary Wilmoth (1850), Anderson Priestley (1852), Sara E. (1854), Emma Elvira (1856), William Alfred (1858), M.L.T. (1860), Newton Pitts (1864), and Benjamin Pennelton (1872).

Engaged in government administration & farming in the 10th Civil District of Benton County, Tennessee. Managed extensive landholdings on & near Tennessee River in Benton & Humphreys Counties as well as several businesses & investment properties in and around Camden, Tennessee City limits. Active organizer and participated in the organization of Benton County, Tennessee. Served as Justice Of The Peace, and County Court Magistrate/member. Member of Methodist Church. Died in Benton County, Tennessee on January 23, 1885; buried in Old Bethlehem Cemetery (Benton County/Hallshire Community).

Sons John, Anderson, William, and Benjamin were all elected to county offices and John and Anderson were elected to state level government offices.
