Jack Douglas Mahaffey, 74, born September 17, 1935, died July 1, 2010. He was a native of Monroe and a long-time resident of Baton Rouge. He died peacefully surrounded by family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was preceded in death by his mother Jennette McGee Mahaffey and father W. M. "Doug" Mahaffey. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sally Smith Mahaffey; sons Jack Douglas Mahaffey, Jr. (wife Julie) of Carpentersville, Illinois, William David Mahaffey (Lisa McGee) of Baton Rouge; grandchildren Morgan and Michelle and their mother Randi Mahaffey, and Mark Mahaffey of Baton Rouge, Kevin and Kailyn of Carpentersville. Sisters are Janet Morgan (husband Craig), Jo Ann Todd (Billy), Sharon Ballew (Lindy). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Layne Dearman, Wyn Bomar, Jim Todd, Audra Todd, Tiffany Ochiltree, Christopher Ochiltree, Mark Ballew and Craig Ballew. Jack was a career Marine [Pfc, Korea; MSgt, Vietnam], an avid golfer and bridge player. He was an enthusiastic alumni of Neville High School, Monroe, Class of 1954, and University of Louisiana at Monroe. The family is grateful for the loving and conscientious care given Jack by the Heritage Manor Nursing Home and the Life Source Hospice Care. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home on July 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. The service in celebration of Jack's life will be at Faith Presbyterian Church, 12855 Old Hammond, Baton Rouge 70816, July 3 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Green Oaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church, Life Source Hospice at 3049 S. Sherwood Forest, Suite 100, 70816, Heritage Manor Nursing Home 9301 Oxford Place, 70809.
