Her father, William and Uncle Charles (C.H.) operated a barbershop at the University of Virginia that was established by their father, W.L. Brown, in 1865.
Ruth's father William F. Brown, was the son of William L. Brown & Harriett Marshall Brown. He was born 11/18/1878, in Charlottesville, VA, and died at the Paramount Theater in Charlottesville, VA, 12/13/1952.
Ruth's mother Emma Jenkins Brown, was the daughter of Hudson & Lucy Jenkins. She was born 12/27/1881 in Virginia and died 7/15/1971 at Cedars-Arlington House in Charlottesville, Va. At the time of her death Emma Brown's survivors were: sons Charles, Addison & Franklin Brown; Daughters, Harriet Watson, Emma Losey, & Lucille Stallings.
