Mrs Fannie Rogers Keithly passed away Friday, March 7th, 1919, at 845 Riverine Ave, where she has lived for the last 14 years.
Mrs Keithly was born in Ft Covington, NY, Sept 10, 1833. When only a year old her father took his family of ten children to Northern Ohio, locating at Ashtabula. There he and his four sons cut the trees and built the house which stands today as a monument to the spirit and courage of those early pioneers who braved dangers and endured hardships in order to establish homes for themselves in the then far west.
Her father, Mr Samuel Rogers, traced his genealogy directly back to Rev John Rogers, the Christian martyr whom "Bloody Mary" imprisoned and burned at the stake at Smithfield, England in 1554.
Mrs Keithly studied at Grand River Institute at Austinburgh, O, and in Oberlin, O , graduating from the latter in 1861. During her student days Charles G Finney was president of Oberlin College, a man of whom it has been said our country has probably not produced a more fervent evangelist. He was noted for his power in prayer and the answers to his prayers seemed truly marvelous. Perhaps the inspiration of such a life led Mrs Keithly into the work which she took up in later years.
After graduation she taught school for many years. She was also an artist of much ability. From teaching she went into evangelistic work.
In September 1880 she married Mr Murvin Keithly and for twenty years and until his death, her home was in O'Fallon, Mo. At his death she took up evangelistic work under the direction of the Union Mission Association of St Louis, Mo, being associated with such well known evangelists as Rev Gott and Rev Isaiah Reed.
Mrs Keithly is the last of her family and would have been 86 years old had she lived until next September. A sister lived to be 88 years old and her mother was over 81 when she died.
Mrs Keithly has been ill for nine months, the breaking down consequent upon old age, no disease, just nature giving out.
Mrs Keithly will be laid to rest in Fairhaven cemetery in accordance with her expressed wish to be buried in her beloved Santa Ana.
