James Carroll Jones was born on April 8, 1936, in Minden, Louisiana, and was called home to be with his Lord on January 31, 2010, at his home. James had several jobs as a young man, including service in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served in the Second Marine Division at Camp LeJeune, N.C. In his professional career, he was an administrative law judge for the State of Louisiana until his retirement after 33 years in 2009. He was never too busy to give advice or assistance, and he presented at conferences and seminars to help others understand the unemployment process. He accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of nine and followed Him the remainder of his life. He was chairman of the deacons at First Baptist Church in Houma, La., and held many other positions there. He enjoyed working with youth and was the youth choir director and a youth Sunday School teacher at Southside Baptist Church in Minden. He has many dear friends from his years as a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ruston, La. The members of his Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Ruston were a comfort and joy to him. Despite dealing with challenging medical conditions for the past several years, he was generous and giving and always brought laughter and happiness to those around him. James is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kathleen Pixley Jones; two daughters: Denise Smith of Ruston and Becky Gemelli and husband, Bernard, of Ruston; two sons: James "Bubba" Jones and wife, Brenda, of West Monroe; and Lewis Jones and wife, Gina, of Ruston; one brother, Gene Jones, and wife, Jane, of Minden; one sister, Marilyn Powell, and husband, Mike, of Minden; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of extended relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll "Casey" and Eva Roton Jones of Minden; paternal grandparents, James H. "Jim" and Sallie Jones; and maternal grandparents, James Doss and Eunice Pearl Roton. The family would like to thank Dr. Ed Mariano of Green Clinic, Dr. Greg Boyce of Monroe, and Professional Hospice for the care and compassion provided to James in his time of need. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church Building Fund at 200 South Trenton Street, Ruston, La. 71270.
