She was the daughter of William Fincher (1774-1841) and his first wife, Catherine Yount, (1774-1809). She married Peyton Henry Coats on October 26, 1820 in Miami County, Ohio. They had the following children: George Coats (1826–1850), Lemuel F Coats (1827–1888), named after her older brother, Samuel Coats (1827–1850), Robert Coats (1829–1850), Archibald Coats (1832–1862), John Coats (1836–1917), Sarah J. Coats (1836–1870), and Henry Harrison Coats (1840–1909).
