Asheville Citizen Times Tue Jul 18, 1922 p. 1 - Brooks is Held without Bond In Double Homicide - Buncombe Co Grand Jury Will Conduct Further Investigation - That Laurens West and Emery Lance came to their deaths from gunshot wounds inflicted by Walter Brooks, Special Deputy and Guard for the Biltmore Forest Development Co., was the verdict of the jury summoned by the coroner to hold an investigation regarding the circumstances surrounding the tragedy in which the two young men lost their lives and Price Sumner, a companion, was badly wounded on a dirt road several hundred yards from the Shiloh Gate of the Biltmore Estate late Sunday night. When the Grand Jury of Buncombe Co convenes this morning Solicitor George M Pritchard will instruct the body to conduct further investigation. Should a true bill be returned, Brooks in all probability will be arraigned in court and the case continued until the Sep term of Court. Meanwhile, the alleged slayer is being held in the county jail without bond.
