Bernadette I. Mulligan, 81, of East Longmeadow, passed away suddenly on Saturday September 18, 2010. Born in Springfield to the late Martin and Catherine (Begley) Hogan, she was a lifelong area resident. She attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and was employed by Mercy Hospital as a Registered Nurse for many years. Bernadette was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in Springfield for 54 years and was an avid gardener. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Patrick Mulligan. She is survived by her five children, Ann Mulligan of Pembroke, MA, Patrick Mulligan of Wilbraham, MA, Robert Mulligan of Norton, MA, Eileen Mulligan of Exeter, NH and Frances Foster and her husband Paul of Fairhaven, MA; by her three siblings, Mary and Julia Hogan of Springfield and Anne Ares of Paxton, MA and by five grandchildren, James Maruca and his wife Jessica, Daniel Maruca, Rosemary and Brendan Mulligan and Matthew Foster. Besides her husband, she was pre-deceased by three siblings, Joseph and John Hogan and Sister Theresa Hogan, S.N.D. Family and friends are invited to meet on Wednesday Sept. 22nd at 9AM at the Byron Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen St., Springfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10AM at Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Rd., Springfield. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield. Calling hours will be held Tuesday Sept. 21st from 4-8PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernadette's memory to the Bernadette Mulligan Holy Cross Scholarship Fund, payable to Holy Cross Church, 221 Plumtree Rd., Springfield, MA 01118.
