Nancy is the daughter of George Washington Peace and Mazie Farmer. Born in Glassy Mountain township in Greenville county, SC she is a sister to John Wesley, William Andrew, Joseph E and George Washington Peace, Jr.

Her father served the CSA in Co J, NC 22nd. He is buried in the Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg, VA. However, it is not clear he died during the war. If he did then George Washington Peace, Jr is not his son.

Nancy moved to Green River, Henderson county, between 1860 and 1870. She resided with her mother, her daughter, Marie Peace Davis and her granddaughter, Marie L Davis until sent to the Western NC asylum in Morganton in 1915, at the age of 63. She had not married.
