Her Tombstone arrived with errors, but the family couldn't afford to buy another one. In those days, tombstones were ordered and paid for by the family - and there were no refunds for errors. They arrived by train, and if the family didn't like it, they had to pay again and order a new one.

Her husband was James Allen HELMS, she is buried beside him, and her parents are buried in the adjacent row. Her tombstone has his initials reversed, incorrectly reading "WIFE OF A. J. HELMS."

She was known as Elizabeth Ann (Adams) HELMS in all existing records that I have found, and was remembered as "Elizabeth" by her grandchildren. One of her sisters had four known given names, so she likely had other given names as well. Elizalette might have been among her given names, but so far there is no substantiation for this other than the tombstone (which has at least one known error of transposing her husband's initials). She and James gave their children multiple given names as well, although it is also difficult to find all of their sets of names as well.

She was the daughter of Alford ADAMS and wife Sarah H. WATSON. She was born 8 May 1842 in Sumpter County, GA according to her CSA Widow's Pension request, on file in the Covington County, AL Courthouse.

Come Ye Blessed

A precious one from us is
gone. A voice we love is still.
A place is silent in our home
which never can be filled.
