Arthur Fredrick Achtemeier, 90, Beatrice, NE, died on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Beatrice Good Samaritan Center. He was born on December 26, 1919 at Beatrice, NE to John and Ella (Schnuelle) Achtemeier.

He married Evelyn L. (Rayburn) Acthemeier on May 15, 1965 at the First Presbyterian Church, Beatrice, NE.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice, NE and Fairbury, NE, an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice, NE and a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles where on December, 2010 he would have become a Golden Eagle. He enjoyed gardening and sharing the produce with family and friends, living and working on their acreage, Sunday morning coffee with step-sons, and most importantly the family gatherings. He was employed by the Fairbury Brick Yard and also Canning and Co. of Fairbury, NE prior to moving to Beatrice in October 1952. While living in Beatrice he worked at Store Kraft, Wilkes Bakery, Beatrice State Developmental Center and Dempsters Mfg. Co., retiring in 1981.

Survivors include children of Arthur and Anna Colene (Darrow) Achtemeier: Carolyn Sell and husband Larry of Beatrice, NE, Arlene Geer and friend Jim of Laramie, WY, Kay Palasz and husband Rich of Fort Myers, FL, Anita Love and friend Bruce of Lincoln, NE; brother, Orval Achtemeier of Fairbury, NE; stepchildren include Robert Rayburn and wife Brenda of Beatrice, NE, Gerald Rayburn and wife Sandy of Marysville, KS, Jeanette Parker of Plano, TX, Tim Rayburn and wife Lois of Beatrice, NE, Kathy Beall of Lincoln, NE, Roberta Corter and husband Randy of Beatrice, NE, Leo Rayburn and wife Yolanda of Grand Island, NE, David Rayburn and wife Mary of Beatrice, NE; sister-in-law, Ruth Slusher of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law, Virgil Sowers and sister-in-law, Mary Sowers of Alamagardo, NM; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Evelyn, son Arthur Bruce Achtemeier; son-in-law, Donald Geer; sister and brother-in- law, Ruth and Kenny Gumaer; sister-in-law, Dorothy Achtemeier; sister-in-law, Dorothy Leber; brother-in-law, Frank Slusher; step-grandsons, Darrin Rayburn, Christopher Johnson, Todd Johnson and Jason Rayburn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church, Beatrice, NE with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Shelbourn officiating. A family prayer service will be held prior to the services at 10:15 a.m. in the church parlor. Visitation will be held on Monday (9/20/10) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; then on Tuesday ( 9/21/10) 9 a.m to 9p.m with family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice, NE. A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church with Julie Hay in charge.
