Sometime between Annie Jane Quarry’s birth and the 1910 US Census, her age and the age of her older brother Ben was confused.
The 1910 US Census does not record a date, but lists Annie’s age as ten (and her brother Ben’s age as 12). This would make her birth year presumed to be 1900.
Annie believed her birthday to be 24 Aug 1900 and was accepted as accurate by her entire family. That miscalculation would be the common understanding for a century, until a closer look a copy of the actual 1900 US Census on 1 Apr 2012.
The 1900 US Census lists Annie’s birth as August of 1898. It also lists her age as being one year at the time of her last birthday which would have been Aug of 1899. In June of 1900 when the census was taken, Annie was some 22 months old.
Annie Jane (Quarry) Callahan 1898-1997. Aged 99 years.
