Religious Leader. He was a principal figure in the 16th Century "Reformation" of the Christian churches in Europe, and founder of the Lutheran denomination. His "95 Theses" - reform proposals initially sent to the Archbishop of Mainz in 1517, is generally regarded as the catalyst for the Protestant Movement.
