PFC. U.S. Army, WW2-Pfc Harris was killed by the Japanese on Chinese Soil on 12-24-1942 as a Prisoner of War. The Japanese had a POW Camp at Mukden, Manchuria. Pfc. Harris was assigned to the 60th Coastal Artillery at Corregidor at Manila Bay, Philippines.
He is the son of Mr. Ernst & Mrs. Elizabeth Cullum Harris of Peoria, Illinois, and he did graduate from Spalding Institute, Class of 1939, and attended Bradley College in Peoria before enlisting in 1941, and going to Angel Island, San Francisco. He was captured at Corregidor in April of 1942, and he suffered and survived the "Bataan Death March".
Awards: Purple Heart, American Defense Medal, Philippine Defense Medal, Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Battle Stars, Presidential Unit Citation.
Footnote: His body was recovered, and brought home for burial on November 21, 1947.
