Peter "Peppy" Vukelich died Sunday, September 16th at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain after a lengthly illness.

Mr. Vukelich was born on July 9, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA a son of the late Todor and Milica (Vujnovich) Vukelich and had been a resident of Lorain since 1946.

Peppy was a 1939 graduate of South High School in Pittsburgh and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps with the rank of Corporal.

Mr. Vukelich was a member of the 1st Marine Division and during WWII served in the Pacific Theatre at New Zealand, Australia, New Britain, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. he participated in the Guadalcanal-Tulagi landings also and saw action against the Japanese at Cape Gloucester.

He was the recipient of the following: U.S.M.C Marksman Badge, Good Conduct medla, WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon.

Upon his discharge from the military on February 15, 1946 he was employed at Thew shovel in Lorain as a Welding Supervisor from which he retired in 1985 after 39 years of service.

Mr. Vukelich was a longtime member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lorain holding many offices within the Church Council including President.

He was a member of Black River Lodge #786 F & AM (formerly Lorain Lodge #552) in Lorain where he received his 50 year pin in 2006 and of which he served as Master; Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland, Lorain County Scottish Rite, Lorain Lodge #552 Fellowcraft Club and Lorain Masonic Temple Company where he served as a Director for many years.

Peppy was a gun enthusiast and was a life member of the NRA and on a local level was a member of the Lorain Rifle and Pistol Club for many years of which he served as Captain of the Shooting Team.

He was a longtime member of the 1st Marine Division Association and was a Life member of Amvets Post #47 in Lorain. He was also a longtime supporter of many charities over the years of which he did so in a quiet manner.

Survivors include a grandson, Theodore (Milana) Vukelich II of Alpharetta, Georgia and 1 great-grandson; sister-in-law Mildred "Toots" Bunevich of Lorain as well as several nieces and nephews.

Peppy was preceded in death by his wife Mary "Mimie" (nee Vinovich) Vukelich in 1990 and by his son Theodore Vukelich in 1999; sisters Sophie Captain and Martha Kosonovich and by brothers George, Milan and Dushan "Dush" Vukelich.

Friends may call at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home on Monday, september 17th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm where a masonic service will be held at 6:30pm with a eulogy immediately following. At 7:00pm a Pomen service will be held

Friends may also call on Tuesday from 9:00am unbtil time of services at 10:00am at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lorain with Rev. Milorad Orlic offciating.

Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with D.A.V. Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 conducting Military services.
