Samuel Spencer, Jr., s. of Samuel Spencer and Sarah Meakins. Per his recorded date of death in the Bolton, Conn. Town Records and age at death per the Hale Cemetery Database, Samuel was b. at Hartford, Conn. after Mar. 29, 1668. He d. testate of record Mar. 29, 1748 (May 26 per Hale) at Bolton, Æ 80.

Samuel's mother d. in 1706 and his father in 1716, both at Hartford, but his father left no estate record. In a Town of Hartford deed initially dated Feb. 20, 1717/8, heading the deed is Samuel Spencer, Jr., called of Colchester, together with all of his siblings. They sold a parcel of land at Hartford to John Austin that obviously was the former land of the elder Samuel Spencer. While all of Samuel's siblings are included with the name of their respective spouse and each individually signed the deed, curiously Samuel's wife Hepzibah was not included as part of the deed.

In May 1718 and October 1719, the Connecticut General Assembly passed acts "for regulating and settling a plantation on the mountain east of Hartford" which was "a tract of land westward of Coventry and Tolland." In October, 1720, it was given town privileges and named Bolton. On May 13, 1731 upon application of the "Grantees and Proprietors of said Lands for a Pattent of the same" a patent was issued in which each proprietor was granted a 1/50 right, one being "to Lieut. Thomas Olcott one fiftyth part Except the Homelott which belongs to Samuel Spencer..."

On Sept. 16, 1696 of record at Hartford, Samuel Spencer, Jr. m. Hepzibah Church, dau. of Dea. Edward Church and Mary Hopkins, b. Dec. 8, 1678 at Hatfield, Mass. She d. Sept. 17, 1745 at Bolton per the Town Record, Æ 67. They had nine children born alternately at Hartford, Colchester and Bolton, Conn.:

• i. William Spencer, b. at Hartford, Conn. Feb. 7, 1698/9 (bp. Feb. 12, Hart. 1st Ch.), d. at Hartford in infancy Sept. 28, 1702.

• ii. Hepzibah Spencer, b. Dec. 8, 1701 at Colchester, Conn. (bp. Dec. 14, 1701 at the Hartford 2nd Ch.); m. Nov. 18, 1728 at Haddam, Conn., Benjamin Smith, Jr. Five children recorded at Haddam.

• iii. Samuel Spencer, 3rd, b. Mar. 8, 1704/5 at Colchester; m. Apr. 26, 1736 at Bolton, Conn., Hannah Shailor, dau. of Abel, b. Aug. 20, 1714 at Haddam, Conn. Six children recorded at Bolton.

• iv. William Spencer, b. Aug. 9, 1708 at Colchester; m. June 12, 1734 at Suffield, Conn., Hannah Copley, dau. of Matthew Copley and Hannah Huxley, b. Nov. 8, 1707. Seven child b. either at Bolton or Suffield.

• v. Edward Spencer, b. Apr. 29, 1711 at Colchester, purportedly d. Mar. 26, 1790 at Hanover, Penn.; m. Apr. 8, 1737, Sarah Chapman, dau. of Jabez Chapman and Esther Selden, b. Sept. 8, 1720 at East Haddam, Conn. She purportedly d. Sept. 13, 1786 at Hanover, Penn. Nine children recorded alternately at Bolton and East Haddam.

• vi. Sarah Spencer, b. Sept. 4, 1714 at Colchester; reportedly m. an unidentified Downer and purportedly d. at Susquehanna County, Penn.

• vii. Caleb Spencer, b. June 28, 1718 at Colchester; m. Hannah (purportedly nee Downer, dau. of Andrew and Sarah of Norwich, Conn. One child b. of record at Bolton.

• viii. Dea. Job Spencer, whose birth or bapt. is not of record, but b. after Feb. 20 1720/1 likely at Colchester, d. Feb. 20, 1800 and interred at Salisbury, Conn.; m. Nov. 13, 1746 at East Haddam, Conn., Rebecca Chapman, sister of the wife of Job's brother Edward, b. May. 16, 1725 at East Haddam. She d. July 22, 1792 and is also interred at Salisbury, Conn. Eight children b. and bapt. of record at East Haddam.

• ix. Philip Spencer, b. June 30, 1724 at Bolton, Conn., d. May 8, 1815 purportedly at Northeast, Dutchess County, NY across the border from Salisbury, Conn.; m. 1) Sept. 25, 1751 of record at Salisbury, Abigail Moore, dau. of Jonathan Moore and Hannah Long. She d. Dec. 18, 1787 purportedly at Northeast, NY. Philip purportedly m. 2) Sally Holly, who d. Mar. 1, 1808 at Northeast, NY. Six children by wife Abigail b. of record at Salisbury.
