An important figure in the building of the Erie Canal, he had extensive real estate holdings managed from the Denison building at 211 E. Fayette St.

He was the eldest son of Dr. Daniel Denison and Maria Kipp De La Maitre. He attended the Medical College at Castleton, Vermont and a course in surgery at Columbia College. He graduated and joined his father in practice in Pompey but only lasted two years. He turned to business and engaged in the construction of railroads and other public works. He did contract work with his father-in-law Anson S. Sutherland and formed a partnership with James J. Belden. He assisted in the construction of the Welland Canal.

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Dec. 20. -

Dr. Henry L. Denison died of pneumonia, aged 60. He was for twenty-five years a member of the firm of Denison, Belden & Co., and leaves a million dollars.
