Cade, as he was called, had joined the United States Air Force and was at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas when he met his future wife, Mickey, as she was employed at the BX. They married shortly afterward and had a family of two sons and one daughter: John Morgan, James Michael and Jean Marie Curry.

He was a member of the United States Air Force for 23 years and was in the Vietnam Conflict as a Crew Chief. He retired from the military and went to work for the Oklahoma State Employment Service as a counselor who helped place people in jobs. He was instrumental in developing a job-placement program for high school graduates. He also helped obtain jobs for people recently released from prison. Before he retired from the state, he and Mickey opened up “John’s Snack Shack” in Midwest City, Oklahoma, which was a little restaurant and recreation center. The whole family worked there off and on.

After the children were grown and gone and starting their own families, “Ma and Pa” as everyone called them – moved to Sterling, Oklahoma where he had been brought up. They had several acres and enjoyed the country life until their deaths.
