PETER RANN, 89, OF REMSEN BURIED

Peter Rann, 89, retired Remsen farmer and longtime resident there, died Tuesday evening, May 7, at the home north of Remsen of a daughter, Mrs. Adolph Witt.

Mr. Rann was born Sept. 2, 1867, in Germany and came to this country at the age of 15. He first settled at Keystone, Iowa, and was married there Dec. 20, 1888, to Johanna Meyer.

The couple lived in the Keystone area for three years and then moved to a farm near Granville. The Ranns had lived in Remsen since 1911. Mrs. Rann died in 1940.

Surviving are a son, Henry of Remsen; three daughters, Mrs. Witt, Mrs. Frank Sanny of Luverne, Minn., and Mrs. F. A. Mylan of Remsen; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Moeller Funeral Home and 2 p.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church at Remsen. Burial was in the Remsen cemetery.

Services for Peter Rann, who passed away Tuesday, May 7, will be held Friday, May 10, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical church in Remsen. Rev. Paul Wuebben will officiate and the Moeller Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the City cemetery.
Mr. Rann was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, September 2, 1867. He had lived in and around Remsen since 1911. About a year ago he began to ail and moved to the home of his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Witt who live north of Remsen and where he passed away. His wife passed away in 1940.
Survivors include one son, Henry of Remsen; three daughters, Mrs. Adolph Witt of Remsen, Mrs. Frank Fanny of Luverne, Minn.; Mrs. F. A. Mylan of Remsen; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild. – Le Mars Globe-Post, May 9, 1957, page 1.

Death Tuesday evening claimed Peter Rann, 89, one of Remsen's prominent retired farmers, resident of the Granville-Remsen area for nearly seven decades, who died in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph C. Witt, northeast of town.
Funeral services have been set for Friday, 1:15 at the Moeller funeral home and 2 o'clock at St. Paul's church. Wake is at the funeral home today and this evening.
Mr. Rann for several years made his home variously among his children and because of his declining strength remained continually with Mr. and Mrs. Witt the past year, exactly to the day.
Born in Germany. Peter Rann was born September 2, 1867, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and came to this country and to Iowa at the age of 15 years, settling at Keystone, where he had friends.
He worked for farmers in that area for three years and in Keystone on December 20, 1888, married Johanna Meyer, also a native of Schleswig-Holstein.
The couple settled on a farm near Granville in 1891, lived there but one year, then moved into Plymouth county and the Remsen community, in 1892.
Mrs. Rann passed away June 8, 1940.
After this Mr. Rann lived with his children; six months with Dr. and Mrs. F. A. Mylan, and lastly with the Witts.
Peter Rann was counted among the early settlers of this community and was one of it highly beloved and esteemed real gentlemen. He was a faithful member of his church and lived accordingly; a devoted husband and father and a real friend—as asset to the community in which he lived for 66 years.
Survivors. Survivors include four children; former Supervisor Henry C. Rann, Mrs. (Jessie) Witt and Mrs. Floyd A. (Bertha) Mylan, all of Remsen and Mrs. Frank (Dena) Sanny of Luverne, Minn. There eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, the latter being one-year-old Ramonda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rann of Akron.
Services. Wake is being held today at the Moeller funeral home which is charge of funeral arrangements. Services will be at the funeral home Friday at 1:30 and St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church at 2 with burial in the community cemetery. The Rev. Wuebben, pastor, will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Ray Witt, Walter Dreier, Charles Barthole, Carl Bly, Leo Spellman and Adolph Rann.
